Ghirardelli Wine & Chocolate Festival

September 19, 2014

Ok. I am officially smitten with San Francisco.

Last Sunday I went to the Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival with my coworker Erica, and it was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced.

$20 got you a ticket for 15 Chocolate samples from the various vendors, and $40 got you the 15 Chocolate samples plus 12 Wine and Chocolate Pairings and a collectible Ghirardelli wine glass!

We obviously went for the Wine one.

Erica and I met up at Noon and got right to sampling. First up: S’mores Bars! It’s hard to tell from the photo but the ‘sample sizes’ were ginormous.

Excellent start.

Chocolate Tasting

After a few quick laps of the many vendors we went to check out the Chocolate and Wine Pavilion.

Sweet N' Salty

Our first pairing was a Pinot Noir and a Sweet & Salty Cupcake.

Did I mention this was the best day ever?

Beer and Chips

Next we got some beer with Chips and Salsa!

There were so many flavours to choose from, but we both went with Salted Caramel.

Macarons are one thing I have yet to try baking…

While we feasted, we enjoyed the sweet sound of a violinist playing Call Me Maybe.

“Hmm what have we not eaten or drank yet?”

Mini Cupcakes

Our Sweet & Salty cupcakes were so good we went back for more – this time I got Toffee and Erica got Cookie Dough.

Giant Mini Cupcake

The Toffee was the biggest Mini Cupcake I have ever had.

Toffee Cupcake

Not my ideal Frosting-to-Cupcake ratio, but it was still rather enjoyable.

At this point we weren’t even halfway through our samples and we were starting to feel a bit gross, so we went and sat by the water to rest and recuperate.

What a perfect day for a Chocolate Festival.

Cosi and Erica

Stopping for a rest was a great idea – after soaking up some sun we were ready to get back to sampling!

Mini Sundaes

Next up: Mini Ghirardelli Sundaes

Chocolate Pumpkins

We ate our mini sundaes while walking through Ghirardelli, looking at the Halloween themed treats.

Ghirardelli Bar

We were insanely full at this point, so we used the rest of our tickets to get samples that came in wrappers so we could take them home and enjoy them later.

Irish Coffees

Once we collected all the loot we could carry, we met up with Cobi and walked to The Buena Vista Cafe for some coffee.

Irish Coffee

They’re known for their Irish Coffees, so we each ordered one and grabbed a table.

Buena Vista Irish Coffees

While we enjoyed our Boozy coffees our tummies somehow convinced us that In N Out would be a good idea…

In N Out

After our burgers I was REALLY stuffed! Cobi had to roll me home and I spent the rest of the evening on the sofa unable to move.

Best. Day. Ever.
