Gingerbread Christmas Tree Cookies

December 9, 2011

Time for Christmas Tree cookies!!

These are really pretty and super delicious, but they take forever to make.

We started with the batter, nice and thick.

Then we cut out the different shapes – mittens, lights, candy canes, stars, angels, trees, ornaments – put them on cookie sheets and into the oven they went.

After the cookies were baked and cooled we made the royal icing in all different colours. We don’t do classic red and green cookies, we do pink and blue and yellow and green and red and white! The more colourful the better!!

We always have a lot of fun decorating, but it takes SUCH a long time we tend to get cranky by the end! This year was no exception. Sometimes the icing was too thick and didn’t spread nicely, sometimes it was too thin and didn’t hold it’s shape and bled into the other colours. Some of the cookies looked pretty funny in the end, but most were pretty.

This guy is my favourite 🙂

They took a long time, but it’s always worth it once they’re iced and on the tree.

The next post will show all our pretty decorations, some cool festive baking supplies, and our finished tree!

Cute cookies. Do you save them, eat ’em, through ’em away at the end of the season? Gingerbread is hard to work with, can’t wait to see them on your tree.

We put the prettiest ones on the tree and they usually get saved, and we eat the less-pretty ones!
I posted a photo of the tree, but the lighting wasn’t great so it’s a bit difficult to see the cookies!
