Poolside Cocktails …And Cake

September 22, 2011

Our first day in Vegas was too active. Too much walking, too much movement.

The second day was much more civilized.

We woke up late, ordered some room service breakfast (Cobi tried to be healthy and had yogurt… What a girl)

My breakfast was way better.

After a hearty breakfast we began our day.

This is what we did in Vegas:

For two days.

Our second night in Vegas we decided to go back to The Sugar Factory… For dinner. Every place, even the ice cream and candy shops, have bars, restaurants and clubs attached to them.

We started with some drinks. They were all candy themed.

Cobi got a Swedish Fish Cocktail = Insanely sweet Swedish Fish-flavoured drink with Swedish Fish floating around inside. I got the S’more Martini = Graham Cracker, Marshmallow and Chocolate. In a drink. Oh man.

Other options were Lollipop Martinis = Sweet green drinks garnished with lollipops. Cinnamon Toast Crunch = Like breakfast in a glass! Or Gummy Worm = Fruity beverage filled with gummy worms.

It was like my heaven.

We each ordered the burger (of course) and wolfed them down. We hadn’t really eaten since breakfast (minus a few frozen poolside cocktails here and there) so we were pretty hungry.

And of course, we HAD to get dessert.

We started with the White Chocolate Raspberry Frozen Hot Chocolate. Good idea in theory, not so good in reality. They didn’t use too much white chocolate, and the chocolate I could taste wasn’t great quality. For shame, Sugar Factory.

Good thing the Cookie Sundae was better!

Chocolate chip cookie dough and cookies n’ creme ice cream with hot fudge sauce and whipped cream and chocolate chips and chocolate chip cookies! Yum!!

The next night, our last night in Vegas, was pretty delicious as well. We woke up and packed all our bags and left them with the concierge for the day (as we were taking the redeye home), and spent the day by the pool again. Glorious 40 degree weather. SUCH a great way to finish off the trip!

After some quality poolside relaxing, we did some more walking around, trying to figure out where to eat before heading to the airport.

Has anyone ever tried this before?!

Frosting, Devil’s Food, Lemon Citrus and Cupcake flavoured Vodka!

I can’t tell if that sounds totally yummy or totally gross…

Our last dinner on our Western Adventure was Mexican food. We got some yummy Guac to start, and filled up on that and hardly touched our meals. Smart…

We knew we had to end the trip on some sort of high, so we looked around for a good dessert place, and ended up at the Grand Luxe Cafe in the Venetian. We were told this place had the BEST fresh chocolate chip cookies, so we went in to order them. They bake them fresh to order, so we had a bit of time to kill while waiting for our cookies.

So we ate cake.

Dark chocolate fudge cake. With whipped cream. Again, it’s difficult to tell from the photo but this slice was absolutely massive. Try as we might, we weren’t able to finish it. And when our warm cookies came we were only just able to get one down. It was a shame not to be able to enjoy more when they were warm and fresh from the oven, but we were just too full!!

We weren’t the biggest party animals in Vegas… We woke up late, lounged by the pool all day, walked along the strip in the evening looking for a place to eat, and then fell into a food-induced coma each night. No gambling, no clubs, no shows.

No wait, we did gamble!

In the airport!

Gotta love Vegas.

Well, that was our food tour of California! I’d say my favourite place was the Nickel Diner, my favourite burger was at Hodad’s (best milkshake too!) and my favourite dessert was Kara’s Ghirardelli Chocolate cupcake. But really, everything we ate was totally awesome.

Uggghhhh nothing but water and celery for me for the next month…

Hahaha well my scale says I didn’t gain any weight but that by body fat percentage went up a point or two, but Cobi’s scale says I gained a couple pounds! I choose to believe my scale 😉
