Frogs & Pies

July 20, 2011

It is about a zillion degrees outside… The cupcakes are stored safely in icy coolers, but I can’t promise that I won’t melt this afternoon.

I had fun making the Froggy Cakes!! These cupcakes are what my mom used to make for me and my brothers for our birthdays when we were little. I tried to find some old photos circa early 90’s but you couldn’t see the cupcakes past the big hair and vests.

The Froggy Cakes are incredibly easy to make and always get a great reaction! I tinted my icing green and spread it onto the Peanut Butter Chip Cupcakes, made eyes out of white chocolate buttons and chocolate chips and added a Smartie tongue! Usually when we make these we make the eyes out of mini marshmallows and chocolate chips, but I had some white chocolate buttons left over from Cookie Monster so I decided to give them a try, and I think they look cute!

The Pie Cupcakes were not quite as simple but still just as cute!

I started by slicing the rounded tops off of each cupcake to make the surface flat.

Then I spread a bit of icing on each cupcake so the ‘filling’ would have something to stick to.

Then I added the ‘filling’ which were Smarties in all different colours.

And voila! Cupcake Pies!

The flavours this week may not be new and exciting but I had a lot of fun decorating!!

I know it’s insanely hot out, but wouldn’t a nice pie, flower, frog and monster make you feel much much better? Yes. I think they would.
